J& K govt formation: BJP-PDP alliance the only option left?

306852-26-amit-muftiNEW DELHI /SRINAGAR: With Omar Abdullah clarifying that there was no discussion going on between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and National Conference (NC), the possibility of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) forging an alliance with the BJP to form a government in Jammu and Kashmir has brightened.
While the PDP secured 28 seats, the BJP won an impressive 25 in the 87-member J&K Assembly. NC won 15, Congress 12 and Others managed 7 seats.
The reports of a BJP-PDP tie up is doing the rounds after BJP general secretary Ram Madhav on Thursday evening held two separate rounds of talks with senior PDP leader Muzaffar Hussain Baig.Besides meeting Baig, the BJP general secretary met with the leaders of the other valley-based political parties.
PDP spokesman Samir Koul confirmed that his party was contemplating an alliance with the BJP. Koul said: “Talks are going on with BJP over government-formation in the state but we are still at infancy stage. It will take some time before we can make any announcements.”
Asked if PDP would agree to rotational chief ministership with BJP, Koul said “not at this moment”.Omar Abdullah, yesterday, said that there was no discussion going on between NC and BJP.Omar posted on the micro-blogging site Twitter: “So many stories doing the rounds about a BJP-NC deal. Let me say this as strongly as possible – There is no deal nor any discussion going on.”
This after there was intense speculation on the possibility of a BJP-NC alliance. Reports had claimed that Omar was in Delhi to hold talks with the BJP leadership over government formation in J&K.However, the former J&K CM rubbished the reports. He tweeted:
Sources claimed that BJP leader and Minister of State in PMO, Jitendra Singh may be chosen today as the leader of the BJP’s state legislature party.This essentially means that he will become the first BJP CM of J&K if his party comes to power.
