It’s raining airfare discounts, airlines cut prices by up to 50%

spicejet [1]NEW DELHI : After domestic low-cost carrier SpiceJet launched a three-day “super sale” in which tickets will be available at 50 per cent discount, more carriers have joined the bandwagon.
According to SpiceJet’s offer, the discounted fares will be applicable on tickets purchased between January 21 and 23, 2014. The special fares are valid for travel up to April 15, 2014 and the discount would be applicable for only those flights where the booking is done at least 30 days prior to travel.
For example, tickets for the Delhi-Goa route can be bought for a discounted price of Rs. 3,355 as against the previous price of Rs. 5,848, according to SpiceJet’s website. Similarly, prices for the lucrative Delhi-Mumbai have been slashed to Rs. 2,830 from Rs. 4,798 earlier.
The January-March quarter is considered to be a lean season for air travel and airlines typically announce promotional fares during this period. Some travel websites are offering up to 50 per cent discount on IndiGo’s 30-day advance purchases booked before 23 January. Another domestic carrier GoAir has also announced promotions fares on 60-day advance purchases.State-run Air India has also come up with special promotional offers on 30-60 day advance purchases, with fares starting from Rs. 2,530.
