Infosys founder Narayana Murthy’s Reaction To Son-In-Law Rishi Sunak
NEW DELHI : NR Narayana Murthy, Infosys founder and father-in-law of Britain’s next PM Rishi Sunak Congratulated him. “We are proud of him and we wish him success. We are confident he will do his best for the people of the United Kingdom,” Murthy said in his first comments on the elevation of his son-in-law Rishi Sunak as Britain’s prime minister.

The son of a pharmacist mother and doctor father, Rishi Sunak was educated at one of England’s most renowned schools, Winchester, and then Oxford. He spent three years at Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and later gained an MBA from Stanford in California, where he met his wife Akshata Murthy, daughter of Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy. He married Akshata in 2009 and the couple has two daughters, Krishna and Anoushka.
Sunak, who describes himself as a “proud Hindu”, is the UK’s first Prime Minister of South Asian heritage and the youngest for more than 200 years at the age of 42. His victory on Diwali has resonated among the Indian diaspora groups across the UK, who have hailed it as a “historic moment” in British social history.

She earned Rs 126.61 crore or $15.3 million in dividend income in 2022 from her shareholding in the IT bellwether, according to the company’s filings with the stock exchanges.

According to Murty’s LinkedIn, Akshata Designs is a womenswear brand aimed at preserving India’s ancient craft traditions through contemporary fashion designs and production techniques.
Murthy is one of the directors at the British menswear brand New & Lingwood and Digme Fitness, a pay-as-you-go gym chain. Apart from this, she is also a director at the UK offshoot of Catamaran Ventures, founded by Sunak and Murthy in 2013, and provides funding to startups across asset
She was at the centre of a controversy when the opposition Labour Party targeted over using her non-domicile tax status as a way to save millions in tax. Murthy said in a statement at the time, “This arrangement is entirely legal and how many non-domiciled people are taxed in the UK. But it has become clear that many do not feel it is compatible with my husband’s role as Chancellor. I understand and appreciate the British sense of fairness and I do not wish my tax status to be a distraction for my husband or to affect my family.” Sunak came out in support of his wife and remarked, “To smear my wife to get at me is awful. And if she was living here and didn’t just happen to be married to me, this obviously would not be at all relevant.”
