India’s Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj discusses membership to NSG with her Chinese counterpart
NEW DELHI: External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj held discussion with her Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in New Delhi today.Sources in the Ministry said the two leaders discussed India’s Nuclear Suppliers Group membership at length during the three hour long meeting. Mrs Swaraj offered to discuss any technical issues which China may have regarding India’s membership in the elite group.
She outlined importance of meeting India’s clean energy goals in the context of Paris Climate Conference.
The Minister conveyed India’s concerns on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor which passes through Pak Occupied Kashmir.
The two Ministers also reviewed the situation on the border and steps to strengthen peace and tranquility along it. The issue of China’s technical hold on listing of Masood Azhar in the UN as a terrorist was also taken up. India urged China to revisit its technical hold in line with its stand of zero tolerance towards terrorism.
It was also agreed in the meeting to have a new mechanism at level of Foreign Secretaries to discuss bilateral ties. The two sides also agreed to hold meeting of Directors General of Disarmament of the two countries soon. Besides, they also discussed preparation for upcoming BRICS Summit in Goa.
Sources said the issue of South China sea did not figure in the talks. Earlier, Mr Yi called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and briefed him on the G-20 Summit to be held in China next month. The Prime Minister conveyed his greetings to President Xi Jinping.
