India claims to have destroyed Lahore’s air defense system

NEW DELHI :   After heavy shelling by Pakistan along the Line of Control, India targeted air defence radars and systems at number of locations in Pakistan on Thursday morning, the Ministry of Defence said in a statement.Indian armed forces on Thursday targeted air defence radars and systems at several locations in Pakistan. According to sources India has neutralised an air defence system in Lahore. Pakistan has increased the intensity of its unprovoked firing across the Line of Control using mortars and heavy calibre artillery in Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar and Rajouri sectors of Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan tried to target 15 cities of India. These include several cities of Punjab.
More than 16 innocent people have lost their lives due to Pakistani firing, including three women and five children. And India was forced to retaliate to stop the firing of mortars and artillery from Pakistan. However, the Indian armed forces reiterated their commitment to non-escalation, provided that the Pakistani army respects it.
On the night of May 7-8, Pakistan attempted to target several military installations in northern and western India, including Avantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai and Bhuj, using drones and missiles. These missile attacks were neutralised by the Integrated Counter UAS Grid and Air Defence Systems. Pakistan has now resorted to unprovoked heavy shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) to claim 16 innocent lives, including three women and five children.
Meanwhile, the government on Thursday said that Pakistan’s attempts late last night and this morning to escalate tensions with India by targeting military installations in 15 cities in northern and western parts of the country, including Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and Gujarat, have been foiled. The government said the Indian Army responded by targeting and neutralising Pakistani air defence radars and systems at multiple locations, including Lahore, in response to Pakistan’s attempts to attack military installations in Srinagar, Pathankot, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Chandigarh and other places.
The government on Thursday underlined that the Indian Army’s response was “in the same area (and) with the same intensity” as the attacks carried out by Pakistan. The Pak Army used drones and missiles, which were neutralised by India’s air defence systems. According to sources, India used Harpy drones to destroy Pak air defence, while India used Russian-made S-400 defence system to shoot down missiles aimed at its cities.
During the press briefing on Operation Sindoor on May 7, India described its response as focused, measured and non-aggressive. It specifically mentioned that Pakistani military installations were not targeted. It also reiterated that any attack on military installations in India would be met with an appropriate response. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said today that more than 100 militants were killed in the strikes.
Four militants from The Resistance Front, a proxy of Lashkar-e-Taiba, killed 26 people, many of them civilians, in Baisaran Valley, a tourist resort less than 70 kilo metres from Jammu and Kashmir’s capital Srinagar. Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed to take revenge on those responsible.
