“idiotic” to think that i will attack Udit Patel Says Subramanian Swamy
NEW DELHI: BJP parliamentarian Subramanian Swamy, who has been critical of outgoing Governor Raghuram Rajan’s policies, approved the appointment of Urjit Patel as the new central bank chief today.
Mr Swamy tweeted that it will be utter “idiotic” to think that he will attack Mr Patel, who was born in Kenya. In response to a Tweet criticising Mr Patel for being a Kenyan national, Mr Swamy replied: “He is not a Kenyan citizen, but was. R3 was born Indian and chose to continue his US green card even though in India from 2007.” R3 is the acronym Mr Swamy uses for referring to Raghuram Rajan.
Mr Swamy, who has on several occasions attacked Dr Rajan for keeping interest rate high and hurting growth, hoped that Mr Patel will not be as “hawkish” as his predecessor. When a twitterati posted, “I am so dead sure that Swamy is not happy with this appointment”, the BJP MP shot back, saying “rubbish”.
Mr Swamy had earlier alleged that Dr Rajan is “not appropriate for the country”. He had attacked the RBI chief saying Dr Rajan had “hiked interest rates in the garb of controlling inflation which has damaged the country”.Dr Rajan, who is all set to return to academia in the US next month, had earlier said that he had nothing to say to his opponents.
“Critics are there all the time… There are also people who send me messages in the plane from the back, anonymous notes, saying thank you for what you are doing,” he told reporters after announcing his last policy this month.
