Gen Rawat wants India to deal with terrorism like US did after 9/11

110635-utgpitgymr-1579151214NEW DELHI : In a sharp attack on Pakistan, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat said that terrorism will not end till the time there are countries which provide funding to it.  “The future of terrorism is going to be as dirty as conventional combat. Terrorism is here to stay, so long as their are states who are sponsoring it.”

General Bipin Rawat on Thursday pitched for strong global action against states sponsoring terrorism, saying there is a need to take the bull by its horns and strike at the root cause.
In an address at the Raisina Dialogue, Gen Rawat also said there is a need to take a hardline approach in dealing with terrorism, the way the US went after terror groups after the 9/11 terror attacks.

“As long as there are states which sponsor terrorism, we will have to live with the menace. We need to take the bull by its horns and strike at the root cause,” he said in an oblique reference to Pakistan. “If we think war on terrorism is going to end, we are wrong,” Gen Rawat said. He said the countries which are sponsoring terrorism cannot be part of global fight against terror networks.

He said Terrorism will remain as long as there are states that sponsor it and the only way to end it is like America after 9/11, India’s Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat said on Thursday, in a warning that was seen aimed at Pakistan.

“Terrorism is here to stay so long as there are going to be states that are going to sponsor terrorism and they are going to use terrorists as proxies, make weapons available to them, make funding for them, then we can’t control terrorism.”
“You cannot have partners who are partnering global war on terrorism and yet sponsoring terrorism… There has to be diplomatic isolation of those sponsoring terrorism. Any country which is sponsoring terrorism has to be taken to task,” he said.

“Any country which is sponsoring terrorism has to be taken to task. I feel one of the measures adopted is of blacklisting by Financial Action Task Force (FATF) is one good measure. Diplomatic isolation, you have to do this,” he added.
On containing radicalisation, the Chief of Defence Staff said it can be checked if right persons are targeted, adding there was a need to confront the “ideology of radicalisation”. Asked whether he supports negotiations with the Taliban, he said peace talks should be initiated with everybody provided they give up the “weapon of terrorism”.
