Finance Minister says price rise was at its peak during UPA regime
NEW DELHI: Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Thursday countered Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s assertion that the NDA government only make false promises and asked the latter to introspect the ten-year-rule of the former UPA regime when price rise was at its peak.
Rejecting the Opposition criticism over rising prices, Jaitley said that inflation is under control and I expect it will reduce further with good monsoon.High prices of daal is concern for entire nation and the government has taken steps to address mismatch in production and demand, he said.

Earlier Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi today took on the Narendra Modi government in the Lok Sabha on the issue of rising prices of essential commodities.Mounting a scathing attack on PM Modi over price rise, Rahul Gandhi asked, “ The PM had promised to bring down price rise, what has become of that promise”.
Modi in 2013 said that when BJP would come to power, they will control price rise, but nothing has been done in this direction, the Congress VP further said.With the prices of pulses and some other commodities skyrocketing in recent months, the main Opposition party has launched a sharp attack on the NDA government for hitting hard the common man.
Before elections, PM Modi had vowed to bring down inflation, but while celebrating 2 years in power, the government has never spoken on this issue, Gandhi added.You may make as many “hollow promises” as you want but give a date by when prices of daal will come down, Rahul asked the PM.
“Modi government celebrated its second happy birthday a few days back. While addressing the people, he spoke about Make In India, Connect India, Digital India, but he does not talk about price rise. Not once did he talk about pulses, potatoes and tomatoes,” said Gandhi in the Lok Sabha.
“You can make false claims on Startup India, Make in India, but not on rising prices,” he added.
