FIFA greets fans with Brazil vs England, but fetches worries for admin, ticket less
KOLKATA: Even as there’s a maddening crowd for FIFA U-17 World Cup semifinal between Brazil vs England tickets here, state administration and who would be ticketless are both worried and disappointed.
So far they have sold about 1.5 lakh tickets (till 6 O’clock this evening) and still there’s demand for more! While the stadium, second largest in India, has capacity of 87,000, it has been reduced to 66,600. How to accommodate more? Though far flung from old Kolkata, “in all possibility the both traffic jams and huge crowd would hit the state capital,’’ feels Kolkata Police.
Yet no doubt football fans here feel they are grateful to FIFA as they would witness most popular Brazil playing it out with England. It’s a life time opportunity,’’ said an old footballer who spent his manhood playing the game. While it fetches a `life time opportunity’ but a huge disappointment for ticketless people who spend the evening either glued to TV sets or in verandas of big electronic shops watching idiots box like they are used on matches elsewhere.
Psychologically impact would be bad from disappointment to vulnerability,’’ said a police official. In the afternoon there was a little confusion over availability of tickets and the add up number of who might come from Guwahati or Assam!
However, the FIFA semifinal has redeemed the case against State Government where spreading dengue fevers turning out to be death messengers both in rural and urban Bengal. At least for few days listening to disappointing dengue developments would stop,’’ said a state Congress worker.
