Dhaka pays for intelligence failure as holy month gets soiled

bangladesh-flag-51-pKolkata: Even as Dhaka begins operation clean up with security forces rescuing hostages and leaving six terrorists dead, Bangladesh Prime Minister Hasina issuing an open threat to fundamentalists saying “they have no religion but a religion of violence.’’

“… people will not believe you as protector of Islam when during solemn Ramzan month when we offer prayer to God…’’ Hasina told nation in a broadcast.

If this was Hasina’s reaction, former prime minister and BNP leader Khaleda Zia joined her in condemning terrorists asking all to unite against fundamentalists irrespective of political colours.

“With Indian Prime Minister N Modi and External Minister Sushma Swaraj assuring Hasina all help at the moment of crisis, she feels a little more confident,’’ says an top ally of Awami League leader who was in the city for personal purpose.

Incidentally, while operation clean up left six terrorists dead one in police net, the operation also left two police men dead.

“The intelligence failed to check local Taliban and IS people who have been threatening Hindu priests in in various Hindu religious places,’’ said another defense expert in Dhaka.

Local sources said 12 hour operation in Gulshion, a place exlusively for diplomats thus will not bring respite for Dhaka.
