Demonetization spin offs: Left readying for last super
KOLKATA : As Modi, Mamata and Congress gained while people’s cause lost, the Indian Left seems readying for the Last Super politically on 49th day of Prime Ministrial promise of financial normalcy.
Ever since Mamata, Rahul banged Modi and Modi banged them all without knowing the effect, Left retreated and looking for an answer how it would explain to workers and other Left comrades why this retreat when there was so many reasons why their radicalism could have been executed.
Even Sitaram Yechury party’s general secretary would have found it hard to reply but can point to Mamata’s intervention in Delhi,’’ a top CPI(M) leader said. But the point is if these calculations didn’t delay the cause for the Left against Modi and his demonitisation? It did. And we’re caught slow in responding to people’s woes,’’ he added
Incidentally, Left still investigating into their gradual but sure petering out, yet didn’t come to terms with new emerging realities of economic reforms that not only stopped young men joining Left parties, but rendering them to political irrelevance. “And Left leaders think they can again stage a comeback, it looks strange,’’ said a Political Science professor of Calcutta University.
The left should understand reason for their going into the realm of political irrelevance, merely taking out lessons from Lenin and other Communist leaders wouldn’t help, they must first get Indianised then come with strategists, then may survive the onslaught of new reform-driven economy and new middle-class who earlier kept them supplied with leaders,’’ suggest the professor.
But not to be left behind, State CPI(M) headquarters Allimudin Street, steeped in political confusion, has called a series of agitation from the new year, like TMC did, but again they would only end up harassing common people like Modi and Mamata did. So, are they readying for their Last Super?’’ Asked professor.
