Delhi riots: Police arrested AAP Councillor Tahir Hussain’s brother Shah Alam

shah_alamNEW DELHI : Delhi Police Crime Branch on Monday detained Shah Alam, brother of suspended Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor Tahir Hussain, in connection with the recent riots in Delhi.  Three people have been arrested for sheltering him, sources say.

As per reports, Shah Alam’s name has come up during the investigation process. Tahir Hussain is an accused in the alleged murder of Intelligence Bureau (IB) staffer Ankit Sharma during the violence in Delhi’s North East district.
Suspended AAP councillor Tahir Hussain was arrested by the Delhi Police on Thursday for the alleged murder of Ankit Sharma and involvement in Delhi riots that consumed the lives of 53 people and injured over 200 others.
AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan has been vehemently defending Tahir Hussain claiming that his fellow party leader is innocent and he is being punished “because he is a Muslim”. In a rant against the government, Khan had said, “Perhaps the biggest sin in the country these days is to be a Muslim and Tahir Hussain is paying the price for being one.”
Tahir Hussain, who was accused in the murder of an Intelligence Bureau employee during violence in northeast Delhi over the Citizenship Amendment Act, was arrested last week. He is accused of murder, rioting and arson, and had appeared at the court to surrender. But the court refused to accept his request to surrender, saying it was not in its jurisdiction.
Meanwhile, a man named Naresh Kumar Solanki has also been arrested in connection with four murders in Delhi’s Gokulpur area during the violence, sources say, and adding search is on for other people he has named.
