Delhi records biggest single day spike of over 3,000 Covid-19 cases
NEW DELHI : COVID-19: In the highest single-day spike, Delhi has reported more than 3,000 positive cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours. With new infections, the total number of Covid-19 patients in the national capital has neared two lakh mark, according to the city Health Department.
Delhi recorded 3,256 fresh coronavirus cases on Sunday, taking the tally to over 1.91 lakh, while the death toll mounted to 4567 as 29 more patients succumbed to the illness, authorities said.
As many as 26,829 rapid antigen tests and 9,217 RTPCR/CBNAAT/TrueNat tests were conducted in the last 24 hours. So far, 17,80,512 tests have been conducted so far and Tests Per Million (TPM) stands at 93,711.
The total number of cases stands at 1,91,499, of which 1,65,973 patients have either been discharged, recovered or migrated. The number of active cases stands at 20,909.
India registered the highest single-day spike of 90,633 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, taking the national caseload past 41-lakh mark, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Meanwhile, there has been a rise of 80 per cent in the number of home isolation cases of Covid-19 in the national capital in the last 16 days. With more cases, the number of containment zones has also increased to 976 over the same period, according to official data.
Amid the steady rise in fresh and active coronavirus cases in the last several days, the number of people in home isolation here on Saturday reached the five-figure mark again after over a month’s time.
The number of home isolation cases of Covid-19 on September 5 stood at 10,514. The corresponding figure a day before was 9,822, according to the Delhi health department.
In order to ramp up the testing limits in the city, the Kejriwal government is also planning to set up corona testing centres at Delhi’s markets, bus stands and mohalla clinics. Currently, as many as 40,000 coronavirus tests are being conducted in the national capital.

Parallelly, the number of containment zones too have multiplied from 589 on August 21 to 976 on September 5, according to official figures.
