Delhi polls : Amit Shah meets top BJP leaders
NEW DELHI : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah on Thursday attended a meeting with senior party leaders to deliberate on the campaign strategy ahead of Delhi Assembly elections.
Union Minister Arun Jaitley, Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu and all the seven MPs from Delhi met Shah. The seven Delhi MPs include Dr Harsh Vardhan, Maheish Girri, Meenakshi Lekhi, Manoj Tiwari, Udit Raj, Ramesh Bidhuri and Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma.
The meet came after BJP on Wednesday pushed some of its big guns into Delhi’s electoral battle, asking its Union Cabinet ministers and a chief minister to campaign for the February 7 elections in which it is involved in tough fight against Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP.
As the countdown for the high-stakes poll battle begins, Human Resource Minister Smriti Irani and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj hit the campaign trail addressing several rallies in South and North West Delhi to woo the voters.
The party also roped in Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who held a public meeting in Bijwasan area of South West Delhi amid indications that more Union ministers and central leaders will hit the roads in the next few days.
Sources in the BJP said though its chief ministerial candidate Kiran Bedi has been addressing roadshows in various areas, the party does not want to take any chances and has decided to deploy its top leaders to campaign in the city.
