Congress attacks PM Modi, says ‘he talks about Vikas but runs his own shop’
NEW DELHI: Congressmen, who assembled in the capital on Saturday to mark the 126th birth anniversary celebrations of India’s first prime minister Jawahar Lal Nehru, utilised the platform to criticise current Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his policies.
Speaking at the occasion, former PM Manmohan Singh accused Modi of deceiving people of the country.
“He talks of Vikas (development) but all he does is runs his own shop. If ‘Vikas’ does not happen for SC’s, ST’s and for all sections of people of India, then that ‘Vikas’ has no meaning,” he was quoted as saying by ANI.
After paying tributes to his great grandfather Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on PM Modi, stating, “Our PM has no interest in Parliament, opposition raises questions, but no interest is shown by PM and govt.”
“Our PM goes to London and says India is a tolerant nation, but he says no such thing in India. If PM Modi really had the answers to everything, then acche din would have come,” he was further quoted
The Gandhi scion also slammed RSS, stating, “Difference between Congress and RSS: We want to give space to all, they want everyone to follow one line. They want one song in one voice. We celebrate diversity.”
Reacting to remarks made against Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru, Congress president Sonia Gandhi said, “Today, the people who are maligning Pt. Nehru’s image, were hiding in their homes and stayed away from the freedom struggle. If Nehru ji wanted, he could have spent a life of comfort, but he didn’t. He sacrificed his life to fight for independence.”
“Today we remember those Acche din (good days) when Nehruji was our PM. During those days everyone had the right to speak his mind. Two organisations had opposed Quit India movement. One created Pakistan and other has the remote control of the Govt in hand today,” ANI quoted her.
