Chhattisgarh minister ‘sex CD’ case: After Journalist’s Arrest, FIR lodged against Congress Chief Baghel
RAIPUR: Following the arrest of senior journalist Vinod Verma on Friday over extortion charges, the Chhattisgarh police today lodged an FIR against president of state Congress Committee Bhupesh Baghel as well as Verma in connection with the state minister sex CD case. The FIR was registered under relevant sections of IT act.
Minister Rajesh Munat had filed the complaint against Chhattisgarh Congress chief Bhupesh Baghel after Mr Baghel said he possessed a copy of a sex CD purportedly featuring the minister. Mr Munat has called the CD “fake” and said it can be investigated by any agency.
Verma, a former BBC and Amar Ujala journalist, yesterday said that he had a “sex CD of a Chattisgarh minister” and that his arrest over blackmailing and extortion charges was a “political vendetta”.”I have a sex CD of Chhattisgarh Minister Rajesh Munat and that is why the state government is not happy with me,” he said.
An FIR was filed against Verma by a person named Prakash Bajaj, who accused the journalist of blackmailing him over a certain ‘vulgar’ video that features his boss. However, Munat, dismissed the allegations and claimed that the sex CD was “fake”. He added that he had requested Chief Minister Raman Singh to order probe in the matter.
“The sex CD is fake. I appeal to the chief minister to get this investigated from any agency. I condemn this,” Munat said. Verma, who was arrested in the wee hours of Friday from his Indirapuram residence in Uttar Pradesh’ Ghazaibad, was later released on bail by a local court.
The Chhattisgarh government has claimed Mr Verma was working with the opposition Congress to discredit the BJP government. The journalist, it says, is related to state Congress chief Bhupesh Baghel. Mr Baghel has denied it.
