CBSE, CISCE 12th Result Result Date to Marks Calculation Formula

CBSENEW DELHI :Class 12 results will be announced by July 31 and will factor in students’ performance over three years or from Class 10, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) told the Supreme Court today, announcing its assessment plan after exams were cancelled because of the Covid crisis. The total marks should be based on the past performance of the school in Class 12 board exams, it said.

“The historical performance of the school, in terms of the best overall performance in the previous three years’ Board examination, will be taken as the reference for moderating the marks assessed by the school for 2020-21,” the Board has said. A “moderation committee” will be set up to check schools that award liberal marks to students to boost their performance, Attorney General KK Venugopal told the court.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has produced the result criterion finalized by the committee in the Supreme Court today. The result criterion for the other central educational board – CISCE – will also be finalized in the hearing today. Attorney General on Behalf of CBSE proposed that students should be given marks based on the average of class 12 pre-board score, class 10 and 11 final marks. This will be for the theory section and for practicals the marks will be submitted by schools.
Attorney General said, for class X and XI the marks in best of three from five papers in term examinations will be considered. For Class XII the marks obtained in unit, term, and practical’s will be taken into account, the attorney general told SC. The Result committee will be there for each of the schools to rule out advantages to students in some schools, which traditionally give high marks to students. The final result will be announced by July 31.
CISCE to announce results on criterion similar to that of CBSE, however, the Council will take into consideration the six years’ performance instead of three, as suggested by CBSE. CISCE result will be declared by July 20 and students unhappy with the result can appear for written exams. CBSE, however, also proposed a second option suggested by CBSE also including holding class 12 board exams in a “controlled environment” to this the Supreme Court had said that there is “no rolling back” of the decision to cancel the exams. This, however, can be given as an option to students who wish to appear for exams, asked AG. The final decision on this can be expected in the next hearing.

About 40 per cent of the marks will be based on Class 12 pre-board exams, 30 per cent on the Class 11 final exam and 30 per cent marks will be based on best-of-three Class 10 marks, the CBSE told the bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar and Dinesh Maheshwari. Practical’s will be for 100 marks and the students will be assessed based on marks submitted by the schools, a 12-member committee constituted by CBSE told the court.
“If a student is unable to meet the qualifying criteria – now spread across three years of study – they will be placed in the ‘essential repeat’ or ‘compartment’ category. Students who are not satisfied can appear again when the CBSE conducts Class 12 board exams,” Mr Venugopal told the court.
The court, meanwhile, has asked both the CBSE and Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) to include a dispute resolution panel for students who want correction of final results. “CBSE and ICSE must incorporate two aspects – provision for dispute resolution panel in case students want correction of final results declared and timeline for holding optional exam depending on the situation,” it said. The court will hear the case again on Monday (June 21).
The government on June 1 cancelled the CBSE Class 12 board exams amid the pandemic across the country. CISCE too, soon after, decided to scrap the examinations for its ISC students.
