CBI probe into Saradha deepens Mamata’s embarrassment in last round polling
KOLKATA: With Supreme Court ordering CBI probe into Saradha Chit Fund scam today, it only deepened political embarrassment for Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee, who has been resisting probe by CBI for long.“It’s good. Now CBI will have to shoulder the responsibility of returning the money to the lakhs of people who were cheated,’’ said Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, `sarcastically greeting’ the apex’s decision.
Speaking to Newstrack an observer however said “while a CBI probe might expose the TMC men who were allegedly delaying the probe for their own interests, but let us not expect any miracle out of CBI overtaking the probe.
“As Saradha scam is spread into West Bengal, Asom and Orissa already with huge number of cases pending in several courts, it would take some time and it might further delay the compensation to Saradha victims,’’ he said.Though oppositions in the state, from CPI(M), Congress and BJP joined greeting the Supreme Court decision with aplomb, Mamata Banerjee greeting with her known crude-speaking, said: “A few days more, and Congress-led UPA II will have to pack up and go then…?’’
Incidentally, Mamata Banerjee, who is still campaigning for the last round with other parties, is worried over the impact of CBI probe on the remaining LS seats as “she knows that Congress, CPI(M) and BJP will blast her personally as promoter of corrupt,’’ said a Congress leader.
And at least two victims committed suicide though all political parties forgot them as hurly burly of polling schedule pushed them under earth. But families and villages will not.
