BSNL, MTNL unlimited free calling at night to be effective from today
NEW DELHI: State-run telecom operator MTNL and BSNL’s unlimited free calling scheme during night hours will be effective from Friday.
Earlier this month, BSNL had announced unlimited free calling scheme during night hours from its fixed line phones to any operator including mobile phones anywhere in the country while MTNL yesterday announced unlimited free local calling at night for its landline and broadband customers to any network.
The scheme would be operational between 9 PM to 7 AM and would cover all type of connections for BSNL users while for MTNL users the STD call charges have also been made local by making call charges rate at 180 sec/pulse.
Under the BSNL scheme, all major landline general plans of rural and urban areas, landline special plans as well as all major Combo (landline with broadband) plans are covered.
As per latest from telecom regulator Trai data, BSNL which dominates landline market was the biggest loser of fixed-line customers in February while Airtel emerged as top gainer. The company had over 1.66 crore landlines at the end of February.
Even after losing 162,556 landline customers in February, the company dominated the market with 62.26 percent share. Meanwhile, as per data Trai, MTNL had 11.4 lakhs wired Broadband service subscribers as of February this year.
India’s telephone (wireline) subscriber base stood at 2.67 crore at the end of February 2015 of which MTNL accounts for over 35 lakh subscribers.
