BJP fielded pilot Yogesh Bairagi against wrestler Vinesh Phogat in Julana
NEW DELHI : In the second list of 21 candidates released by the Bharatiya Janata Party today for the Haryana Assembly elections, BJP has fielded pilot Captain Yogesh Bairagi from Julana against wrestler and Congress candidate Vinesh Phogat.
In fact, last week wrestler Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia joined the Congress. Congress has fielded Vinesh Phogat from Julana assembly seat of Jind district. Julana assembly seat is one of the hot seats in the state. The saffron party has not refrained from giving tickets to the descendants of leaders this time too.
Who is Captain Yogesh Bairagi?
35-year-old Captain Yogesh Bairagi, who is contesting against Vinesh Phogat, is a resident of Safidon in Jind district. Seeing many problems in his area, especially the problem of unemployment, Yogesh Bairagi entered politics. Yogesh is the vice-president of the Yuva Morcha unit of Haryana BJP.
Before joining politics, Yogesh Bairagi has been a senior pilot. Captain Yogesh Bairagi delivered relief material during the flood disaster in Chennai and helped the people. Apart from this, during the Corona period, he earned a lot of praise by playing an active role in the Vande Bharat Mission. Now the party has made him its candidate from Jind’s Julana seat, one of the hottest seats in Haryana.
On the other hand, BJP has fielded former cricketer Pradeep Sangwan from Baroda. The BJP today released its second list of candidates for the Haryana Assembly elections, which includes 21 more names. So far the party has announced 87 candidates for the 90-member assembly.
The BJP has pitted Captain Yogesh Bairagi against Olympian Vinesh Phogat, who is set to contest from Julana on a Congress ticket. In its first list of 67 candidates, the party has fielded Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini from Karnal to Ladwa seat. Mr Saini has been an MP from Kurukshetra between 2019 and 2024. Prominent leaders like former state BJP president Om Prakash Dhankar, who is now playing the role of national secretary in the party, has been fielded from Badli constituency.
Another prominent figure, senior party leader and former minister of state Anil Vij will contest from his traditional stronghold Ambala Cantt. Several political heavyweights who joined the BJP recently have been rewarded with tickets. Former Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) leader Devender Singh Babli will now contest from Tohana, while Shruti Chaudhary, who recently joined the party and granddaughter of former Haryana Chief Minister Bansi Lal, will contest from Tosham. Shruti Chaudhary, a former Lok Sabha member, is the daughter of Kiran Chaudhary, who recently joined the BJP. Similarly, Aarti Singh Rao, daughter of Rao Indrajit Singh, has been given the Ateli seat. Several other loyalists of the Union minister have also been given tickets, which will further strengthen the party’s presence in south Haryana.
With the assembly elections scheduled for October 5, the BJP is aiming for a third consecutive victory in the state. However, the ruling party faces a tough challenge from the resurgent Congress. Counting of votes is scheduled for October 8.
