Bhagwat fails to see the `reason in strong nation building’
KOLKATA: Notwithstanding Mamata Banerjee’s tacit objection to RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat, addressed a rally in Central Kolkata today. While the rally on Makar Sankranti gave a hints that may be RSS has a reason to rejoice as there was a good audience, but what came of it?
Though earlier during an interactive session Bhagwat said let the Government set up a non-political panel to decide on reservation. However, Bhagwat didn’t choose a route for a philosophical exploration for a solution to the problem where only birth should not be allowed to be a deciding factor minus economic status for students/ unemployed who can claim benefits of reservations.
Apparently, Bhagwat was referring to recent reservation movements among the Jats in Haryana. But after he came to Brigade Ground, which Calcutta High Court allowed the organization yesterday by Justice Joymalaha Bagchi, RSS leader slighted political parties and men saying “RSS not working against anyone, any community, only want to unite Hindus.’’
According to observers here Bhagwat’s clearing it up gives a hint that he threw a challenge to the ruling elete, especially Mamata Banerjee who allegedly directed Calcutta Police to spike his meeting today. We wanted to unite Hindus and can anybody stop us?’’ he asked throwing the question to the audience and TMC, Congress and fading Left.
He reiterated that RSS was not working against any community only want for betterment of Hindus. However, he did not visualize a Hindu society which would gradually overcome caste differences to make the unity deeper in every sense of the term.At the end he would rather ask his audience to have more children saying there `isn’t a law to prevent them.’
Observers here agreed with Bhagwat that everyone has a right to hold a rally here, but they disagreed, rather condemned Bhagwat for “only working for Hindus! Why not other communities as it would give more strength to true nation building, it is unfortunate, they need to change with time. While now there is a time we looked back or reservation issue and fix economic and literacy criteria for the same than only caste-based,’’ said a Calcutta University professor of sociology.
Unfortunately, it ignored the wisdom of great man and thinker like Subhas Chandra Bose who wanted everyone to live in a free India like an Indian and get all facilities from Government if he / she belonged to economically a backward status,’’ he added.
