“Being a Delhi-girl,aware of people’s issues better than Modi: Priyanka
NEW DELHI : “Being a Delhi-girl, I give you an open challenge. Fight the last two phases of Lok Sabha elections on demonetisation, GST, crime against women and those false promises which you made to the nation’s youth,” Priyanka said.
Priyanka on Wednesday sought to strike an emotional chord with people during a road show here, saying she was born in Delhi and is empathetic towards their aspirations, unlike Prime Minister Narendra Modi who, she claimed, has been here only for five years.
Holding her first road show in the national capital in support of Sheila Dikshit, the Congress candidate for Northeast Delhi constituency, Priyanka Gandhi challenged Modi to fight polls on the issues of GST, demonetisation and women security.
Priyanka Gandhi said that BJP is using names of Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi to escape accountability, just like a school student.”Their situation is like those children who do not do their homework and come to school.
When teacher asks them they say, ‘What can I do, Nehru ji took my paper and hid it. What can I do Indira ji made a paper boat out of my homework and sunk it in water’,” Priyanka Gandhi told the crowd.
The road show started in Seelampur, a minority-dominated area, and meandered with a sea of people towards Yamuna Vihar depot, where it culminated. Perched atop a minibus, she said, “I cannot disrespect you. We are not arrogant like the BJP. We know that you have made us what we are today.”
“Modi ji is in Delhi for five years. I was born in the city. I have seen every bylane. I will tell you (Modi) what the people of Delhi think. They are tired of your useless talk. You keep yourself confined to your Race Course Road residence,” said Priyanka Gandhi.
She issued an open challenge to PM Modi “to fight elections on his fake promises”. Addressing a road show in Delhi’s , Priyanka Gandhi claimed that she has been a Delhi resident for the past 47 years, whereas Narendra Modi came to Delhi only five years ago.
“I understand Delhi, from Mehrauli to Majnu ka Tila. These people [PM Modi] stay locked up in 7 RCR [Race Course Road now known as 7 Lok Kalyan Marg]. I can tell you Delhi is fed up with Modi’s tall talks,” she said at the rally.
The road show by the Congress leader, in charge of Uttar Pradesh East for ongoing polls, drew a large crowd. Perched atop a minibus that started from Seelampur, a minority dominated area, Priyanka Gandhi and Sheila Dikshit waved at the ebullient hordes of supporters who were raising slogans “Desh me aandhi Priyanka Gandhi”.
The Congress banners adorned the road. People jostled with each other to catch a glimpse of Priyanka Gandhi. Some were also showering rose petals on her as the minibus passed by. Priyanka Gandhi will also hold another road show in South Delhi later in the evening.
