Assam: Process of opening bank accounts for tea workers going on
GUWAHATI : In Assam, the process of opening bank accounts for tea workers after demonitisation is being carried out. In this direction, the workers of Gopal Krishna Tea Garden in Morigaon district have opened bank accounts.
Our correspondent quoting Sources in the SBI said that there are total of 834 labourers at Gopal Krishna tea garden. All workers have been associated to Jagiroad branch of the SBI. The bank has issued passbooks to all workers and bank is all set to provide online payment from today onwards.
There are 780 tea gardens in Assam and 15th of this month is the last day of opening bank accounts. Banks and district administrations have also started awareness campaign on cashless payment.
