Arvind Kejriwal announces resignation, Aatishi may be the new Chief Minister
NEW DELHI Aam Aadmi Party supremo Arvind Kejriwal, while addressing the workers today, made such an announcement, which has created a ruckus in Delhi politics. Kejriwal’s new move has surprised the opposition. He said that a meeting of AAP MLAs will be held within the next two days to select the new Chief Minister for the national capital.
It is believed that Delhi minister Atishi can be made the Chief Minister. Kejriwal has said that the Delhi Legislative Assembly elections should be held in November along with the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly elections.
Two days after coming out of jail on charges of alleged scam in Delhi liquor policy, Kejriwal said in the party meeting on Sunday, “After two days I will resign from the post of Chief Minister. I got justice from the legal court, now I will get justice from the court of the people. I will sit on the Chief Minister’s chair only after the order of the people.” He said, “I want to ask the people of Delhi whether Kejriwal is innocent or guilty? If I have worked, then vote for me.” He made this announcement while addressing the workers in the party office.
Kejriwal said, “I will sit on the CM’s chair only when people give me a certificate of honesty. I want to give Agnipariksha after coming out of jail.” He said in the party headquarters, “I am going to resign from the CM’s chair and I will not sit on the CM’s chair until the public announces its decision.
He said – After the Aam Aadmi Party, a member of the party will be made the Chief Minister. He said that he will go among the people and seek their support. After talking to the party leaders, he decided that someone else should become the Chief Minister of Delhi. It is believed that Kejriwal can play the emotional card of his resignation among the public. Kejriwal said that I am ready for Agnipariksha. If you think that I am honest then vote for me or else don’t. I will sit on the CM’s chair only when you make me win. After this announcement of Kejriwal, BJP said that Kejriwal is compelled to resign.
The way the Aam Aadmi Party convenor announced his resignation from the CM post has surprised all the political parties. Why did the Aam Aadmi Party chief have to take this step? According to experts, somewhere in this decision of Kejriwal, there are many conditions imposed on him in the Supreme Court order, due to which the pressure on the Chief Minister of Delhi to take this decision increased.
Legal experts believe that the bail conditions granted by the Supreme Court do not give Arvind Kejriwal complete freedom to perform his duties as the Chief Minister. This is being said because even after his release, he cannot visit the Chief Minister’s Secretariat. Also, he cannot sign any file except those files which are to be approved by the Lieutenant Governor. Kejriwal government could have faced many problems due to this.
Meanwhile, Kejriwal met senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi at his residence on Saturday. Kejriwal was accompanied by his wife Sunita Kejriwal, AAP leader Manish Sisodia and his wife, Sanjay Singh, Raghav Chadha, Delhi minister Atishi and his aide Bibhav Kumar, who was recently released from jail in connection with the assault on MP Swati Maliwal. “I resigned as chief minister just 49 days after assuming power in 2014 over the Jan Lokpal Bill for my ideals. I don’t crave for power,” Kejriwal said.
Kejriwal launched a scathing attack on the Narendra Modi government, calling it more dictatorial than the British. He said he did not resign as chief minister despite being arrested because he wanted to save democracy. “They have filed cases against (Karnataka chief minister) Siddaramaiah, (Kerala chief minister) Pinarayi Vijayan, (Bengal chief minister) Mamata didi (Banerjee). I want to appeal to non-BJP people not to resign if they file cases against you. This is their new game,” he said.
