Appointment of 21 MLAs as parliamentary Secretaries by Delhi govt is illegal: Meenakshi Lekhi
NEW DELHI: BJP hit out at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for targeting Prime Minister over denial of presidential assent to a Delhi government bill, saying that AAP is obsessed about Mr. Narendra Modi and is making allegations against him to avoid any responsibility.
The former also rejected AAP’s claim, that 21 parliamentary secretaries appointed by Arvind Kejriwal government do not avail any facilities and said even a post of advisory nature is considered as office of profit.
Briefing reporters in New Delhi, party spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi questioned that when they do not come under the office of profit then what was the need to bring such a bill to exclude the post of Parliamentary Secretary from the office of profit. She said that according to rules the city government can appoint only one Parliamentary Secretary but it illegally appointed 21 MLAs on the post.
Ms. Lekhi also cited an RTI reply to claim that Delhi Assembly Speaker has allotted rooms to these Parliamentary Secretaries. She also alleged that the city government has submitted a wrong affidavit to the Election Commission stating that these MLAs are not taking any facilities. She also accused AAP government of failing on all fronts including providing water, power and corruption free government in the city.
Earlier, another BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra asked Delhi Chief Minister not to make the President’s decision a political issue. Yesterday, Presidential assent was refused to the Delhi government bill seeking to exclude the post of Parliamentary Secretary from the office of profit.Ms Lekhi also demanded disqualification of these MLAs saying it is an open and shut case.
