Amit Mishra secure a huge 190-run victory to clinch series 3-2
Indian captain MS Dhoni opted to bat first after winning the toss yet again. It wasn’t the most expected start for the hosts after Ajinkya Rahane wrapped up his innings cheaply, falling to Jimmy Neesham after scoring just 20 runs.
It was later a splendid partnership between Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli that instilled confidence of reaching a big total in Indian team.Despite carrying an injury, Rohit continued to play, hitting 5 fours and 3 sixes in his route to 70 runs while Virat managed 65 runs with the help of 2 fours and a six.
The duo were India’s top scorers following the skipper MS Dhoni who registered 41 runs.A beautiful partnership by Axar Patel and Kedar Jadhav to India to 269/6 at the end of 50 overs. Trent Boult and Ish Sodhi were the best performers for New Zealand with the ball picking up two wickets each.
Starting off with their chase of 270 runs, New Zealand got off to a disastrous start with Martin Guptil, who scored 72 in 4th ODI, being bowled by Umesh Yadav on 4th ball of the match.
Tom Latham and Kane Williamson looked to solidify New Zealand’ innings before Latham fell to Jasprit Bumrah after just 28 runs on board. Skipper Williamson and vice-captain Ross Taylor also followed the footsteps of the openers as the Kiwis had lost 4 wickets for just 66 runs on board.
Starting with Taylor, Amit Mishra continued to spin his spin-web around along with fellow spinners Kedar Jadhav and Axar Patel. The trio picked up 5, 1 and 2 wickets respectively to hand Kiwis a stunning 190-run defeat.
Jadhav, who was making his ODI debut, was handed the India cap from Virender Sewhag initially and he certainly didn’t wait to pick up his first International wicket.Amit Mishra, who picked up 15 wickets in the whole series and 5 in the match, was honoured both the Man of the Series and Man of the Match awards.
India hence wrapped up the 5-match series with a 3-2
