After attack on CM Rekha Gupta,, Satish Golcha becomes New CP
NEW DELHI : A day after the alleged attack on Delhi CM Rekha Gupta, the Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday (August 21, 2025) has appointed Satish Golcha as the new Commissioner of Police, Delhi. Previously, S.B.K. Singh, was given the additional charge as the Commissioner, on August 1, 2025.
Home Guards Director General SBK Singh was given additional charge of Delhi Commissioner and took charge on August 1. Mr. Singh is a 1988 batch IPS officer of AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territories) cadre. SBK Singh was the Delhi Police Commissioner for just 21 days. His departure was considered certain after the lapse in the security of CM Rekha Gupta.
Mr. Golcha, a 1992 batch IPS officer of AGMUT cadre, has served in various positions in Delhi Police. Sakariya was the special commissioner of police during the 2020 northeast Delhi riots and was appointed director general (prisons) in April last year. In a major security lapse during a ‘public hearing’ at Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s residence on Wednesday, she was slapped and her hair pulled. The attacker, Rajesh Sakariya, hails from Rajkot in Gujarat.
After the attack, questions were raised over the security provided to the chief minister by the Delhi Police and sources had said major changes would be made to it. Sakariya’s mother Bhanu told reporters that he was upset with the Supreme Court’s decision to send all stray dogs in Delhi-NCR to shelter homes. “My son loves dogs. He was angry after the Supreme Court’s order against stray dogs,” she said.
Ms Gupta, who has sustained injuries on her hand, shoulder and head, has died. In a post on X after the attack, Ms Gupta had said that such incidents cannot break her resolve to serve the public. She wrote, “Naturally, I was in shock after this attack, but now I am feeling better. I will be seen working among you very soon. Such attacks can never break my passion and resolve to serve the public.”
