AAP MLA Kartar Singh Tanwar Busted With Rs. 130 Crores
NEW DELHI: In what could increase trouble for the Aam Aadmi Party, the Income Tax Department on Tuesday recovered an unaccounted wealth of Rs 130 crore with party MLA Kartar Singh Tanwar. The IT officials have already seized unaccounted cash and jewellery of nearly Rs 1 crore from Tanwar, who was earlier with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and his brother.
In a bid to defend himself, Tanwar described the raid as “witch-hunt” by the BJP-led NDA government. The Chhatarpur MLA’s south Delhi residence was raided on July 27 also.
The Indian Express quoted sources in the Income Tax department as saying that the account books with Tanwar revealed a number of transactions for buying farm houses in Chattarpur and Ghitorni.
The department has also reportedly found various documents showing unaccounted and benami properties. Baffled by the arrests of many of its MLAs, the Aam Aadmi Party has been saying that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has “unleashed” various agencies to target the party and its MLAs.
About a dozen AAP legislators have either been arrested or facing charges in various cases since the party took charge in Delhi on February 14 last year.
