Varanasi cantonment board polls: Setback for BJP in PM Modi’s Bastion
VARANASI: In a big setback to the BJP in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Lok Sabha constituency here, all seven candidates of the party were defeated in the cantonment board elections, the results for which were declared on Monday.
As per reports, independent candidates have emerged winners in all seven wards, polling for which was held on Sunday amid unprecedented security.
At least 36 candidates had contested the polls in all seven wards here. Nearly 15 thousand voters had cast their votes in Sunday’s polling.
As per reports, the polling was held in norheastern railway stadium in ward no. 1, new loco colony school in ward no. 2, cantonment board girls primary school in ward no. 3, Christian nursery and primary school in ward no. 4, cantonment board boys primary school in ward no. 5, community hall ground, Sadar baazar in ward no. 6 and cattle ground and Sadar baazar in ward no. 7.
The cantonment board area comes under PM Modi’s Lok Sabha constituency.
