Delhi HC orders Chautala to surrender before Oct 17
NEW DELHI : In a major setback for former Haryana chief minister Om Prakash Chautala, who has been convicted in JBT recruitment scam case, the Delhi High Court on Friday asked him to surrender on or before October 17.The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) chief is currently out of prison on bail on health grounds.
The INLD leader had yesterday addressed a political rally in Haryana’s Jind town where he criticised the Congress regime for sending him to jail by implicating him in JBT scam and trying to end his political career.Chautala even vowed to take oath in jail if his party emerged winner in the assembly polls.He addressed the rally of the INLD supporters for about 10 minutes.The former chief minister has been granted bail on health grounds by a Delhi court. He was convicted in January last year for his role in a teachers’ recruitment scam.
Chautala, his elder soon Ajay Chautala, and 53 others were convicted by a CBI court in Delhi last year. He and some others were sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment.Addressing the rally, Chautala said he was not afraid to go to jail.He said the family of his father, former deputy prime minister Devi Lal, was used to giving sacrifices.
Chautala urged voters in Haryana to oust the scam-tainted Bhupinder Singh Hooda government in the state.
