Congress rejects Mamata’s name to lead “India” alliance

NEW DELHI:  The ongoing rift between the parties in the opposition alliance (India) seems to be growing. Parties like Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Samajwadi Party (SP) have taken different stands on issues related to Adani’s alleged financial scam and the functioning of Parliament.
Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Manickam Tagore on Tuesday completely rejected the TMC’s proposal to appoint West Bengal Chief Minister and party chief Mamata Banerjee as the leader of the opposition India Block. When asked about the TMC’s suggestion, Tagore said, “It is a good joke.”
The proposal to appoint Banerjee as the India Block chief was raised by party MP Kirti Azad, who said that the Bengal CM is a better face to lead the India Block and her record against the NDA alliance led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the general and assembly elections has been excellent.
At the same time, the BJP targeted the India Block and said that this alliance is nothing more than a group of enemies who have come together to oppose Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Targeting mainly the Congress, the BJP said that all opposition allies are unhappy with the Grand Old Party. BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya took a dig at the opposition unity, saying, “Congress MP Manickam Tagore, a close aide of Rahul Gandhi, called TMC’s suggestion to make Mamata Banerjee the convenor of the Indo-Pak alliance a ‘joke’. TMC is looking for a job for Mamata Banerjee after 2026. Earlier, BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla took a dig at the Congress, saying that after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Shiv Sena (Shiv Sena), now Samajwadi Party (SP) is targeting the Congress.

He had released a video clip of a podcast interview in which Akhilesh Yadav has claimed how the Congress sent journalists after him in Madhya Pradesh to ask him questions. TMC, SP leave opposition protest. Earlier today, Banerjee-led TMC and Akhilesh Yadav-led SP distanced themselves from the opposition’s joint protest in the Parliament premises over the Gautam Adani bribery case. While Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and some Congress allies joined the protest, the Samajwadi Party Akhilesh Yadav and Trinamool leaders were absent.
