NEW DELHI : “You are so smart and good looking… why have you not thought about marriage?” one woman asked the 53-year-old Congress leader. “Because I am completely entangled in my work and in the Congress party,” was the prompt answer. Gandhi said that he was fully dedicated to his work and the Congress party, leaving no room for marriage.
When queried about his favorite cuisine, he revealed that he enjoys everything except bitter gourd, peas, and spinach. As for his favorite destination, he expressed a desire to explore new places. In an interaction with women students in Jaipur’s Maharani College, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi revealed why he is not getting married, his favorite food, and his views on various issues.
The videos of interaction was released on his social media platforms on Tuesday. The students reportedly asked him questions about his personal life, his likes and dislikes, and his views on various issues. Asked about his favourite cuisine, Gandhi said he is fine with everything except bitter gourd, peas and spinach.. His favorite destination, he said, is “anywhere I have not gone”.”I always like to see new places.”
The students also inquired about his skincare routine. Gandhi surprised them by stating that he only washes his face with water and does not use any creams or soaps. He went on to emphasize the significant role of women in the freedom struggle and advocated for their financial independence. Gandhi highlighted the importance of women understanding money and power, as he believed that knowledge in these areas would lead to true independence.
Earlier this year, during the first joint meeting of the INDIA bloc in June, RJD president Lalu Prasad Yadav talked about Rahul Gandhi’s refusal to get married, asking him to tie the knot soon as it was still “not too late.” Lalu stressed his mother, Congress veteran Sonia Gandhi also eagerly wants her son to settle down. The RJD president said, “baat maaniye, shaadi kariye,” adding that “your mummy keeps fretting over your refusal to get married”. Gandhi replied to his comments, saying “ab aapne boldia hai toh hojayega”. “We would like to be a part of your wedding procession (baraat) Prasad added.
In July 2023, RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s ‘no pm should be without wife‘ remark, again brought forth the topic of Rahul Gandhi’s marriage.
Yadav, while talking to reporters about the prime ministerial face from the Opposition front and his earlier advice to Rahul Gandhi to get married soon, said that it was “wrong to stay at the official residence of the prime minister without a wife”.
“Whoever becomes the PM should not be without a wife. Staying at PM’s residence without a wife is wrong. This should be done away with,” the former chief minister of Bihar said
A video of Rahul Gandhi’s interaction with students from Jaipur’s Maharani College was released on his social media platforms today. The discussion veered from issues such as the caste census and the role of women in the freedom struggle to the need for financial independence and candid queries about his likes and dislikes. According to Rahul Gandhi, the role of women in the freedom struggle was no less than men so why should they have less rights. He spoke at length about financial autonomy for women. “Women are never actually explained about how money works, how power works, what money is,” Mr Gandhi said when asked about discrimination against women in society.
“You have been studying since the last 20 years but no one has told you that this is money, this is its definition… why?” A student replied that women would be independent when they learnt this and that is why they are not taught about it. “If a woman has a job but does not understand money, that won’t work. If a woman doesn’t have a job but understands money, that is a powerful thing. If women don’t understand these things, then they are always dependent on a man who either has a job or understands these things,” he said.
Asked what he would be if not a politician, he said, “I’m actually many things. I am a teacher. I teach youngsters…I am a cook. So, I am multiple things. That is a complicated thing to put across.” Rahul Gandhi has been interacting with various sections of society – from mechanics and porters to students and carpenters – asserting that his Bharat Jodo Yatra he undertook from Kanyakumari to Kashmir continues with these interactions. He recently also visited Ladakh and met various social groups.
