Congress spokesperson Rajiv Tyagi dies hours after live TV debate
NEW DELHI : Congress party’s national spokesperson Rajiv Tyagi passed away due to cardiac arrest on Wednesday.
Tyagi was seen in a live TV debate hours before his death.
A young leader, Tyagi suffered an attack soon after a television debate and fell unconscious at his residence in Vaishali, sources said. He was immediately rushed to the Yashoda Hospital in Ghaziabad, where doctors tried to revive him, but could not, they added. His last tweet was about his participation in a TV debate at 5pm.
Confirming the news, the Congress party wrote on Twitter, “We are deeply saddened by the sudden demise of Shri Rajiv Tyagi. A staunch Congressman & a true patriot. Our thoughts and prayers are with his families & friends in this time of grief.”
Hours before his death, the Congress leader had tweeted that he will be appearing on a TV news channel for debate at 5 pm.Shortly after the news of Tyagi’s demise came in, condolences poured in for him on social media with several political leaders expressing grief over his death.
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi expressed sorrow over his death and said that his demise was an “irreparable loss” for the party.
“The untimely death of Shri Rajiv Tyagi, spokesperson of Indian National Congress is personal grief for me and irreparable loss for all of us. Rajiv ji was a dedicated warrior. Heartfelt condolences to the family from Congress’ UP unit. May God give strength to his family to bear the irreparable loss,” she wrote on Twitter.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also mourned his death and tweeted, “The Congress lost one of its babbar sher (lions) today. The inspiration of Rajiv Tyagi’s love and struggle will always be remembered. My heartfelt tribute to him and condolences to the family.”
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot tweeted, “Saddened to know of untimely demise of INC national spokesperson, Sh. Rajiv Tyagi. He served the party dedicatedly. My heartfelt condolences to his family members & friends. May they remain strong in this difficult time. May his soul rest in peace.”

Shashi Tharoor wrote, “Deeply shocked. He had been in touch just recently & was doing a terrific job speaking for inclusive & progressive politics. A real loss for Indian National Congress. Mourning Rajiv Tyagi. Om Shanti.”
Congress’ Sachin Pilot also paid condolences and said, “Deeply saddened to learn about the demise of Shri Rajiv Tyagi ji. May his soul find eternal peace. My condolences to his family and loved ones. He will be missed.”
