JNUSU prez. Aishe Ghosh & others booked for vandalism
NEW DELHI : JNU Students’ Union president Aishe Ghosh, who was attacked by a masked, armed mob and received head injuries during Sunday’s violence at Jawaharlal Nehru University, has been booked for vandalism.
Police filed two cases against her on the university’s complaint. No one is named in the third case, filed a day after the mob barged into the campus and attacked students and teachers with sledgehammers and iron rods.
The two cases against Aishe Ghosh and other JNU students were filed at 8.39 pm and at 8.43 pm on Sunday, when the masked mob was still on campus, beating students and teachers and vandalizing hostels. Aishe Ghosh was left bleeding heavily from multiple injuries after being attacked with an iron rod.
Ghosh was named in one of the three complaints JNU administration had given to Delhi Police prior to the January 5 violence that were regarding the obstruction in the registration process and damaging of server.
The FIR against her says: “…since the entire registration process was halted due to the lockdown on the CIS (communication and information) office, an effort was made by the CIS staff with the help of JNU security guards to open the office at 6am in the morning of 4th Jan 2020.
At this time (Aishe Ghosh, Saket Moon) indulged in physical violence, pushed the lady guards, verbally abused them and threatened them with dire consequences if they would open the lock of the CIS office.” The university had complained that the students “illegally trespassed the university property with the criminal intention to damage the public property.
The attack on students and teachers at JNU by unidentified goons triggered protests across India as the clamour grew for the resignation of the vice chancellor who is being blamed for inaction during the violence that left 34 people injured. Delhi Police said no arrests have been made and that they have transferred the case to the Crime Branch, who claimed to have found “vital clues.
“The opposition and JNU students blamed the ABVP, the students’ wing of the BJP for the violence, and accused the Delhi Police of inaction. The ABVP has denied the allegations and instead blamed Left-supported union of stage managing the violence.Hindu group claims responsibility of JNU attack.
