Congress calls BJP ‘mothership of communal strife’
NEW DELHI : A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted India’s tough stand on terrorism and called Pakistan ‘mothership of terrorism’, the Congress on Monday hit back at BJP, calling it the mothership of communal strife.
Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal tweeted: “Pakistan ‘mothership’ of terror. BJP ‘mothership’ of communal ‘fasad’. love jihad, beef politics , conversions…to polarize UP politics.”
Reacting to Sibal’s attempt to link PM Modi’s tough talk on Pakistan with politics in the run up to the crucial Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, BJP spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao said, “Every time Pakistan is cornered, the Congress party comes to its rescue.”
“When the Prime Minister referred to Balochistan in his Independence Day speech, it was Congress leader Salman Khurshid who cirticised it first,” Rao told a news channel. The BJP leader added that it is for the people of the country to judge whether the Congress’ acts are anti-national or not.
Rao also mentioned the controversial statements by other Congress leaders like Sanjay Nirupam and Digvijaya Singh.Yesterday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi slammed Pakistan as “mothership” of global terrorism and said the menace has become its “favourite child” against which decisive action should be taken as the time for condemning state-sponsored terrorism is “long gone”.
Addressing the BRICS and BIMSTEC Summits in Goa, he said Pakistan “embraces and radiates” the darkness of terrorism and pressed for “comprehensive” and “collective” action against the menace and its supporters, warning that any selective approach will be “counter-productive”.
