India clean-sweep three match test series against New Zealand
INDORE: India today won the Indore Cricket Test against New Zealand and clean swept the three-match series 3-0. In the third and final test this evening, India wrapped up the New Zealand innings at 153 in 44.5 overs claiming a huge victory by 321 runs.
The entire second innings of the visitors folded in just one-and-a-half sessions on Day -4 with an entire day remaining. The chief wrecker for India was again R Ashwin who claimed 13 wickets in the match with six wickets in first and seven in the second inning. It was also Ashwin’s sixth ten-wicket haul in 39 Tests and 21st 5-wicket haul.
It was one-man show as Ashwin took his series tally to 27 wickets and was rightly chosen as the man of the match and man of the series. Earlier,
Team India resumed at their overnight score of 18 for no loss and was 127 for 2 at lunch. In the post-lunch session, Cheteshwar Pujara scored his eighth Test ton as India declared its second innings at 216 for 3 setting a mammoth 475-run target. Pujara remained unbeaten at 101, with Ajinkya Rahane making 23 not out. Gautam Gambhir who made a return to the Indian squad after more than two years score scored a half century.
Yesterday, India had bundled out the Kiwis for 299. Ravichandran Ashwin recorded the figures of 6 for 81.Earlier, the home side had posted a mammoth 557 for 5 declared riding on Kohli’s 211 and Rahane’s 188.
The 3-0 series triumph was the third for India in their last four home rubbers, the earlier ones achieved against Australia and West Indies, and stretched their enviable winning Test record at home to 12 out of 13 encounters, including the 3-0 rout of South Africa last season.
