Any life lost in Kashmir is a big loss for nation: PM Modi

523457-modi-mann-ki-baatNEW DELHI : Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said any life lost in Kashmir is a loss for the nation. Expressing deep concern and pain over the violence in Kashmir, Mr Modi said those who using children to create unrest in Kashmir, have to answer those children some day.

Addressing his 23rd edition of Mann Ki Baat in All India Radio, Prime Minister said all the political parties expressed their sentiments unanimously. Speaking at length about country’s performance in Rio Olympics, Mr Modi said time has come to change the thought process that sports is a waste of time. He urged all state governments, sports associations and individuals to brain storm on how to improve country’s performance in sports.

Mr Modi asked individuals to send their suggestions on Narendra Modi App and also asked the different sporting bodies to submit Memorandum to the government. Saying a far sighted thinking is needed to have a better roadmap for 2020, 2024 and 2028 Olympics, Mr Modi said he has set up a committee to prepare a comprehensive action plan for the next three games. He also appealed to the state governments to set up such committees and choose one or two sports in which their state excels and focus on them.

Mr Modi said motivation is needed for sports and it is a long journey. He praised Abhinav Bindra and Dipa Karmakar who missed the medal by a whisker. Mr Modi also complimented many athletes who performed extremely well but failed to get a medal.

The Prime Minister lauded badminton coach P Gopichand for being a guru to P V Sindhu, and eulogised the role teachers play in our lives. Mr Modi also rememberd the Hockey leged Dhyan Chand, whose birthay falls tomorrow.
Prime minister said what unity can do was witnessed in August this year when historic Goods and Services Tax Bill was passed in Parliament. Mr Modi said over 90 political parties inspite of their differences passed this Bill.

Recalling Lokmanya Tilak’s famous quote that Swaraj is a birth right, Mr Modi said people living in free India should make good governance a priority. Saying that Tilak revived the Ganesh festival in Mahrashtra, Mr Modi said the message of good governance should be spread during the festival this year. He said people’s power in a democracy means finding solutions to problems.

Saying Akashvani has a greater role in people to people contact, Mr Modi said Maitri channel was launched recently to foster ties between India and Bangladesh. He congratulated Akashvani for contributing towards country’s foreign policy.The Prime Minister also urged the citizens to make a three to four minute long short film on cleanliness and send it to him through MyGov. He said this step will help fuel India’s Swachh Bharat mission. He said recently, five states came together for Swachh Ganga project.

Saying that Ganesh Chaturthi and Durga Puja are round the corner, he asked everyone to use eco friendly idols and not use idols made of Plaster of Paris. He also urged everyone to construct toilets in their homes and lauded the efforts of over one lakh students in Chhattisgarh who wrote letters to their parents for construction of toilets.

Mr Modi said he is attempting to send letters of appreciation to all those who gave up their gas subsidy. He gave an example of a retired school teacher who gave a donation of 50 thousand rupees to the government so that poor women can do smoke free cooking.

The Prime Minister said that External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will represent the nation at the canonisation ceremony of Mother Teresa at the Vatican on 4th of next month.
