Rashtravad Brought Us To Power, Stick To The Message Says Modi
NEW DELHI : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday while attending the BJP’s core committee party meeting told its senior leaders that in 2014 Lok Sabha elections his party came to power and advised his top most leaders to stick to the agenda of nationalism. The agenda of nationalism or deshbhakti had brought BJP back to power.
PM Modi also said to the BJP’s core group that the party must combat the perception and allegations of it failing to stand for and protect the weaker sections of the society.PM Modi reportedly said to his core team that, “winning election is our duty and we must do it”. While on the growing atrocities against Dalits and people from lower castes, PM Modi said to his team,”80per cent of party workers come from the lower caste. Don’t let the misinformation succeed”.
In last one year, the opposition had alleged BJP for carrying out a list of atrocities on Dalits and had also said that the ruling party has failed to protect the rights of country’s most vulnerable caste. Last month in Gujarat’s Una district, four young men were stripped, tied to a car and thrashed badly by ‘Gau Rakshak’ groups. Soon after the incident, Gujarat government ruled by BJP had to face severe criticism after which it was learned that the victims were wrongly accused of cow slaughter by cow vigilantes. This month, PM Modi warned that the violence carried out by cow protection groups would not be tolerated at all.
Earlier this year, Hyderabad University faced a series of protest after a young Dalit scholar named Rohith Vemula hanged himself at his university campus. Rohith Vemula had alleged that he had been persecuted relentlessly by officials on account of his caste. Mr Modi also told the BJP’s core group that the party must combat the perception and allegations of it failing to stand for and protect the weaker sections of society.
“80 per cent of party workers come from the SC/ST (Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes) and OBC (Other Backward Classes) category. Don’t let the misinformation succeed,” the PM told his team. In recent months, a list of atrocities against Dalits has been leveraged by the opposition to claim that the BJP has failed in protecting the vulnerable caste’s most basic rights.
Early in July, four young Dalit men were stripped, tied to a car and thrashed, in the village of Una in Gujarat, which is governed by the BJP. The victims had been wrongly accused of cow slaughter by cow vigilantes. A few weeks ago, the PM warned that violence by cow protection squads would not be tolerated.
