Manish Sisodia, AAP MLAs detained near PM’s residence
NEW DELHI: Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and several Aam Aadmi Party legislators were detained by police today while they were on their way to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence in New Delhi to protest the arrest of a party MLA.
The MLAs were detained for violating prohibitory orders around 7 Race Course Road. The AAP MLAs who were detained earlier today have been released by police.
AIR correspondent reports that the battle between the Delhi government and the Centre escalated as Mr Sisodia dared to arrest him on allegations of intimidating the businessmen of the Ghazipur Vegetable Market Association. Mr Sisodia said, he had gone to the market yesterday for a surprise inspection, where he found out that few people were indulging in malpractice and other untoward activities.
AAP MLA Dinesh Mohaniya was arrested on charges of molestation and sexual harassment yesterday while he was addressing a press conference.
Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia and 52 Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislators who were detained on Sunday for several hours for organising an illegal protest march to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 7 RCR residence were released by police.
The AAP MLAs were planning to court-arrest themselves outside 7 RCR to protest over the Centre’s alleged “uncooperative” attitude towards the Delhi government. After being stopped near the Tughlaq Road, Sisodia urged the police to convey his message to the prime minister.
The police had imposed Section 144, which prohibits assembly of more than five people, at 7 RCR after the AAP announced to hold a protest march. At least 52 MLAs were reportedly detained by police.Sisodia had also planned to “surrender” himself before the prime minister.
The development comes after the Ghazipur Vegetable Market Association submitted a complaint against Sisodia, accusing him of intimidating the businessmen during his official visit there.
“Complaint filed against Manish Sisodia yesterday. Manish will go to 7, RCR today to surrender himself before PM,” CM Arvind Kejriwal tweeted this morning with a copy of the complaint filed against Sisodia.
