Three BSF jawans killed, nine injured in militant attack in J&K
SRINAGAR: Three BSF jawans were killed and nine others were injured among which two are critical when militants attacked their convoy in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Srinagar-Jammu national highway today. 11-vehicle convoy of BSF was following the two convoys of CRPF and Army on the highway.
The vehicles were carrying BSF members to Srinagar after returning from their home stay. Sources said a group of two to three militants targeted BSF convoy near Bijbehara town.
Two BSF jawans died on the spot while third personnel succumbed to injuries in Army’s Hospital in Srinagar. BSF spokesperson Vishwa Bandhu told AIR that seven more BSF jawans sustained minor injuries.
He said two grievously injured jawans were shifted to Srinagar Army Hospital. Local militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has strongly condemned the militant attack. While expressing solidarity with the bereaved families of the security forces personnel, Mehbooba Mufti prayed for early recovery of the injured.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has expressed deep anguish over the death of BSF personnel. In a tweet, Mr Singh said, he spoke to Director General of Border Security Force in this regard and instructed him to rush to the spot to review the situation.
