Mamata Banerjee takes oath for second successive term as West Bengal CM
NEW DELHI: Trinamool Congress chairperson Mamata Banerjee was today sworn-in as the chief minister of West Bengal for second successive five-year term. The party sweept the electoral mandate bagging 211 seats of the 294-seat Assembly.
The oath taking ceremony, held at the iconic Red Road, was administered by Governor Keshri Nath Tripathi. Sixty-one-year-old Ms Banerjee took oath in Bengali. The 42-member ministry, of them 18 are new faces, has seven ministers from the minority community. Ms Banerjee is among the four women representatives in the ministry.
Among the dignitaries present were Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitely, his ministerial colleague Babu Supriyo, Bihar Chief Minister Nithish Kumar, his UP counterpart Akhilesh Yadav, former chief ministers Lalu Prasad Yadav and Faruque Abdullah.
Prime Minister of Bhutan Tshering Tobgay, Bangladesh Industry MinisterAmir Hossain Amu and the Deputy High Commissioner in Kolkata were present on the occasion.Former India captain Sourav Ganguly and many former cricket and football players were also present on the occasion.
The prominent Cabinet ministers who took oath were Amit Mitra, Partha Chatterjee, Subrata Mukherjee, Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay, Abani Joardar, Firhad Hakim, Arup Roy, Gautam Deb, Sovan Chatterjee, Javed Khan, Abdur Rezzak Mollah, Suvendu Adhikari, Jyotipriya Mullick, Purnendu Bose, Rabindra Nath Ghosh, Bratya Basu, Santiram Mahato, Ashis Banerjee AND Arup Biswas.
The ministers of state who were sworn in, included cricketer Lakshmi Ratan Shukla and singer Indranil Sen.
