Students clash over India-Pakistan match at AMU, one critical
ALIGRAH: A clash broke out between two rival groups at Aligarh Muslim University in Uttar Pradesh over India-Pakistan cricket match leaving one student critical.
According to a report published in Hindustan Times, the clashes took place between two groups during the cricket match between India and Pakistan on March 19.
AMU proctor Professor M Khan told HT that after India’s thrilling victory over Pakistan in ICC World T20 cricket match, few local students celebrated the win with gunfire at the campus. Kalim Ahmed, an MTech student was hit by a bullet during the celebratory gunfire.
Khalid, whose condition is said to be serious, was on Sunday referred to a New Delhi hospital, superintendent of police Anshul Gupta reportedly told the tabloid.Meanwhile, the police confirmed that there was a clash at the campus between two groups; they asserted that they have not received any written complaint on the matter so far.
The reason behind the confrontation will be clear only when we receive any written complaint in the case, Gupta said.
