5 crore free LPG connections to poor families across India
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched an 8,000 crore rupees scheme to provide 5 crore free LPG connections to poor families across the country.
Addressing a public rally at Maldeypur in Ballia today, Mr Modi said under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, free LPG connections will be provided in the name of women members of BPL households. In the first year, one crore and fifty lakhs such connections will be given and the target of 5 crore will be completed in three years.
The Prime Minister said, BJP led NDA Government has been working for the uplift of the poverty-stricken people through people’s participation. He said previous governments made many policies but these schemes were not framed keeping in mind the interest of poor.
Mr Modi said, poverty can be eradicated only if poor are empowered, given resources and opportunities as well as education, jobs, houses, electricity and drinking water. The Prime Minister also expressed his commitment for cleaning of river Ganga.
On this occasion, Mr Modi called upon the labourers to unite the world. He said, the appropriate slogan on this May day should be labourers! Unite the world.
