Anupam-and-AkshayMUMBAI/NEW DELHI : Akshay Kumar has had a tough last few days after news broke about his Canadian passport. Trolls instantly began to question his loyalty towards India. So much so, that he had to put out a statement requesting people to not encourage a “needless controversy” and emphasised on his love and loyalty towards the country. However, trolls continued to tweet hate messages and question Akki for not being an Indian citizen.
Now, veteran Bollywood actor Anupam Kher, who has starred with Akshay Kumar in several films, including Special 26 (2013) and Baby (2015) and others, has tweeted to the Bollywood superstar, asking him to stop explaining his loyalty for India to trolls. Anupam emphasised on the fact that Akki has done a lot for this country and should be subject to scrutiny because of his nationality.
“Dear @akshaykumar! Have been reading about you explaining to certain people about your loyalty to our country. Stop it! Their real profession is to make people like you & me feel defensive for talking in favour of India. You are a doer. You don’t need to explain to anybody,” Anupam Kher’s tweet read.
Couple of days back Akshay too had tweeted about his Canadian passport controversy which has been making headlines. “I really don’t understand the unwarranted interest and negativity about my citizenship. I have never hidden or denied that I hold a Canadian passport. It is also equally true that I have not visited Canada in the last seven years. I work in India, and pay all my taxes in India.

While all these years, I have never needed to prove my love for India to anyone, I find it disappointing that my citizenship issue is constantly dragged into needless controversy, a matter that is personal, legal, non-political, and of no consequence to others,” he added. Lastly, I would like to continue contributing in my small way to the causes that I believe in and make India stronger and stronger,” Akshay Kumar’s Tweet read.
