When Priyanka Gandhi Vadra met AAP workers in Amethi

AMETHI: In what would come as a major embarrassment for the Aam Aadmi Party, local workers of its unit in Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi were today found jostling with each other to shake hands with Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.Priyanka_Gandhi_meets_AAP_workers_new_360x270
Ms Vadra, 42, was campaigning in Banbhariya village in Amethi where her brother and Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi is seeking re-election from. He faces Kumar Vishwas of the AAP who has promised to oust Mr Gandhi and end dynastic politics, in a reference to the sway held by the Gandhis over the prestigious Lok Sabha seat.
As Ms Vadra alighted from her vehicle, she was surrounded by a group of AAP activists who were sporting the trademark Gandhi caps, carrying the party name and a picture of their leader, Arvind Kejriwal.
She mingled freely with the rather excited group who were also heard complaining about the condition of the roads in the area. Ms Vadra was later also heard smilingly asking the AAP workers to join the Congress, while shaking hands with them before she left.
In January, her brother Rahul had, in a similar manner, met AAP workers in Amethi and, referring to their caps, jokingly asked them to join the Congress. Amethi, which votes on May 7, the penultimate phase of the nine-phase general election. Mr Gandhi, 43 possibly faces the toughest contest this time around as he squares off against Mr Vishwas and the BJP’s Smriti Irani.
