KOLKATA: Now the Bengal politics is rife with a poetic speculation. That is, whether the super sleuths of CBI is motivated by the literary fervour of William Shakespere in tghe course of serious investigation ! As, The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in its third supplementary charge sheet, has mentioned an “Abhishek Banerjee”. The name has cropped up in connection with a 2017 recorded conversation discussing illegal appointments and bribes.
The Kalkata High court has ordered the CBI to investigate further into the irregularities into the school job recruitment scam in the state, and ordered fresh appointments within 15 days. The court’s decision applies to all appointments made by the SSC in the categories of teachers for classes 9, 10, 11 and 12, as well as group-C and D staffers, through the State Level Selection Test-2016 (SLST) where irregularities were found.
The charge sheet alleges a demand of ₹15 crore for illegal appointments and mentions an audio recording recovered during the probe. Though the agency did not explicitly identify or categorically given any specific detail about this person, the moment the gist of the chargesheet has come up in the public domain, CM Mamata Banejee”s nephew and TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee sharply reacted against CBI. Banerjee’s lawyer Sanjay Basu released a statement dismissing the charge sheet as “misleading and unsubstantiated”.
And this prompted a section of opposition leaders in Bengal to quip as CBI has not disclosed any identity of Abhishek Banerjje, why CM Mamata Banejee”s nephew is so much worried. But others like BJP state president Sukanta Majumda reacted that this Abhisek is no one but “nephew” Abhisek. Abu Sharma a state congress leader and AICC media spokesperson said in a lighter vain, “ Amidst the political controversy I will seek solace from Shakespere” s great tragic play Romeo and Juliet. There Juliet told Romeo, “ What”s in a name? That which we call a rose/By any other name would smell as sweet.”  That means, a name is just a word, or merely a label that does not change the inherent character of the person or thing it represents.” Abu added, “ The name without specific identity  mentioned in the chargesheet is just a word. However, this word represents  the grave decline in Bengal politics, the spread of the cancer of corruption in every sphere of life where by paying bribe to the top leaders of ruling party one can buy even a job of teacher!”
In the early days East india company”s rule, Calcutta was known to be a city of Gujaber Sahar, a city of rumor. On Thursday in a program organised TMC Abhisek said, “ In different news media one story was aired that CBI has allegedly twice mentioned my name in their chargesheet. But who is this Abhisek, where he resides or no other detail has been provided… Also a rumor is spead that I may join BJP. All these are lies. I will never bow down to BJP. “
Banerjee’s remarks come amid a recent controversy surrounding his name in multi-crore cash-for-school jobs scam in Bengal. The 28-page charge sheet, filed by the CBI on February 21, has intensified the controversy. It mentioed a person named Abhishek Banerjee in the -school jobs scam. The document  indicts Sujay Krishna Bhadra, alias ‘Kalighater Kaku’ and  two others, for irregular teacher appointments in state-run primary schools through the 2014 Teachers Eligibility Test (TET).
The CBI is identified Bhadra as the Chief Operating Officer of M/S Leaps and Bounds Private Limited. This the company where Abhishek Banerjee was previously named CEO. He also served in the company as a director for a limited period. The charge sheet refers to a 2017 meeting at Bhadra’s Behala residence, attended by accused Kuntal Ghosh, Shantanu Banerjee, Aurobindo Roy Barman, and Surajit Chanda. Ghosh’s staff secretly recorded a conversation discussing the collection of bribes from ineligible candidates in exchange for manipulated job appointments.
CBI claims that a dispute arose between Abhishek Banerjee and then-Education Minister Partha Chatterjee over these illegal appointments. Apointments. The agency claims that Sujay Krishna Bhadra was heard saying that Banerjee demanded ₹15 crore for the appointments already made. “When Sujay Krishna Bhadra expressed his inability to collect more money since the candidates had already paid ₹6.50 lakh each, Abhishek Banerjee told Sujay to stop their appointment or have them arrested or posted in distant locations,” the CBI states on page 15 of the charge sheet. Additionally, the CBI alleges that Bhadra, Shantanu Banerjee, and Kuntal Ghosh planned to collect ₹100 crore in bribes from 2,000 additional candidates
On the other hand Banerjee’s lawyer Sanjay Basu categorically denied and stated, ”. “The alleged third supplementary charge sheet is nothing more than a fishing expedition aimed at harassing my client. The CBI has failed to provide a shred of corroborative evidence, with no supporting documents.”  And it is interesting to note that in the year 2023 when Bhadra” s name surfaced  in the teacher recruitment scam he said on record before the media, “ Can any one touch my Sahib?” He also clarified that his Sahib (Boss) is Abhisek Banerjee. He said, ´ “From 2009 onwards I am working in ABHISHEK’S office.”
