Union Minister Nitin Gadkari tests positive for Covid-19

Nitin-Gadkari-770x433NEW DELHI : Union Minister Nitin Gadkari today said he has tested positive for the coronavirus and has isolated himself. “Yesterday, I was feeling weak and consulted my doctor. During the course of my check up, I have been tested COVID-19 positive.
I am at present doing well with the blessings and good wishes of all. I have isolated myself,” he said, urging those who have come in contact with him to undergo tests.
Balli Durga Prasad, a Lok Sabha MP of the YSR Congress from Tirupati, passed away in a hospital in Chennai due to the coronavirus infection. His death came on a day India crossed yet another grim milestone of 50 lakh Covid-19 cases with a spike of 90,123 new cases and 1,290 deaths, the highest in 24 hours so far, the Union Health Ministry has said.

Besides Amit Shah, the Union ministers who have contracted the virus earlier include Jal Shakti minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Ayush Minister Shirpad Naik, junior agriculture minister Kailash Choudhary, junior minister for heavy industries and parliamentary affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal and petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
The total number of people who have died because of the disease now stands at 80,776. The total number of coronavirus cases now stands at 50,20,360, including 9,95,933 active cases, which comprises 20.08 per cent of the total caseload, the data stated. India’s recovery rate rose to 78.28 per cent. A total of 39,42,361 patients stand cured.
Earlier today, India reported 90,123 new cases of coronavirus, taking its total past the 50-lakh mark. The country also reported 1,290 deaths in the last 24 hours – the highest in a day, showed data from the Union Health Ministry.
The number of people who have died of the disease now stands at 82,066, with a fatality rate of 1.63 per cent. The positivity rate in the country stands at 8.06 per cent.
Suresh Angadi were also diagnosed with COVID-19 recently.Prominent politicians who tested COVID-19 positive recently include Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit. Maharashtra ministers Ashok Chavan and Dhananjay Munde had also tested positive.
Meanwhile, Delhi’s COVID-19 tally rose to more than 2.30 lakh after 4,473 fresh cases were reported on Wednesday, which was the highest single-day spike in the national capital recorded so far..
Thirty-three fatalities pushed the death toll in the national capital to 4,839, according to the latest bulletin issued by the Delhi health department. Four of these 33 deaths are from the previous days.
