Two soldiers, civilian injured in militant attack in Kashmir

jammu-kashmir-tangdhar_650x400_81448430772TANGDHAR: At least two soldiers, including an army officer, were injured as militants stormed an army installation in Tangdhar area, near the Line of Control in Kupwara district, in north Kashmir on Wednesday morning.
Preliminary reports suggest two soldiers were hit by the indiscriminate fire opened by militants, whose number is believed to be between three and five, when they tried to storm 3/1 GR in the morning.Encounter_2633270g
One of the two injured soldiers is said to be critical. The Army has not confirmed any casualty so far.With fog enveloping the entire Valley, the militants are suspected to have launched the attack early in the morning by sneaking in near the army camp through dense forests in Darshak Forest Range.
There are reports of fire and fume bellowing from the camp as fuel depot is believed to have been hit by the fire. A civilian, an employee working in the electricity department, was also injured.
Three massive blasts were heard and the gun fire is going on near the camp site till last reports came in.The Army has thrown a tight cordon in the area. Reinforcements have been dispatched to take on the militants hiding in the forest.
Wednesday’s attack came at a time when a prolonged combing operation is on in Kupwara’s Manigah area since November 13, which left a Colonel dead. In a sudden spurt in militancy, three militants were killed in south Kashmir on Monday.
At around 7.40 this morning, three to four terrorists positioned themselves at a mountainous ridge near the camp, which is located near the Line of Control. The terrorists also threw grenades.

The army has launched a counter offensive. There are about 80 soldiers in the base.Army sources say the terrorists have been firing from a distance.
