TMC’s turnaround in RS takes a little wind out of Bengal BJP’s sail

mamta [1]KOLKATA: Even as Trinamool Congress extended (when it was politically unexpected) its support to a beleaguered BJP in Rajya Sabha yesterday on Telcom Regulatory Authority (Amendment Bill), the state BJP likely to arrange an important state-level meet with party’s central leaders whom they expect to break newer grounds to consolidate just concluded Lok Sabha polls’ 17.2 percent vote for the party in Bengal
“Sudden change in TMC stand in RS may act as a factor to slowdown their attempt to sharpen their political arms against TMC scripting a gradual intolerant policy, for which Stalinist CPI(M) was known for,’’ said a political commentator. What however despite this uncertainty gave respite to BJP that in Bengal that TMC “is silent on relentless food inflation though other day Union Statistic Ministry said the trend shows “it was going down (an evening report in DD Bangla yesterday), when it really hasn’t. It was BJP’s poll-time promise to deal with hurtling inflation.’’
And while state Congress’ and CPI(M)’s allegations that cornered over CBI probe into Sharada Chit Fund scam, TMC wanted to compromise as investigation already revealed damaging links with TMC leaders, the arguments however didn’t convince state BJP leaders. “Instead they see as it was momentary patch up move for which TMC seeks much bigger political returns,’’ said a BJP sympathesier.
But certainly with the spirit they began planning up next month important meet, which was expected to have rolled out political attacks on Mamata Banerjee and TMC, “it stood a little dampened now,’’ the party sympathesiser felt.According to party sources, state BJP leader Rahul Sinha happened to have invited new party president Amit Saha to preside over the meet though it wasn’t known if Saha saw much reasons in Sinha’s invitation yet.A meet may take place, but may not release the much expected broadsides on Mamata, also echoed another political commentator.
