TMC MP’s wife apologizes for husband’s shocking statement

NEW DELHI: Hours after a video emerged showing Trinamool Congress MP Tapal Pal hurling expletives, the leader’s wife today apologized for his comments, saying, “he (Tapas) shouldn’t have lost his cool.”“There was a heated exchange of words,” Nandini Pal told reporters. There has been no word from the MP himself since the video surfaced last evening.
The videotaped speech of actor-turned MP Tapas Pal in which he threatens to get opponents raped and shot surfaced triggered such outrage that even Trinamool leaders who defended people like Anubrata Mandal and Arabul Islam had no choice but to condemn it.
The speech seems to have been taken in Nadia’s Choumaha village during campaigning for Lok Sabha elections. In the shaky video, Pal is heard hurling expletives, gesturing obscenely and screaming that if anyone dares challenge Trinamool, he would “send his boys to break into their homes and rape them”.
Meanwhile, West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool president Mamata Banerjee has reportedly called in a meeting on Wednesday to discuss Pal’s written explanation over the issue.
